SI 1 – Day Tour – Reykjavík to Landmannalaugar via Landmannaleið

Reykjavík to Landmannalaugar via Landmannaleið (F225/F208) and back via Sigöldugljúfur (also known as the Valley of Tears), Hrauneyjar and the beautiful valley of Thjorsardalur to Reykjavik. Open June 15 – September 30.

Day trip to Landmannalaugar via Landmannaleið (F225/F208) a remote road that goes past the Hekla volcano, and back via Sigöldugljúfur also known as the Valley of Tears, Hrauneyjar and the beautiful valley of Thjorsardalur (F225/) to Reykjavik.

Departure from Reykjavik not later than 9 am heading east along road 1 via the village of Hveragerði (coffee stop available), the small town of Selfoss and then turn left on Landvegur (R26) and head into the interior. We pass the volcano Hekla, our most active volcano on the right and drive through desolate landscapes shaped by gigantic volcano eruptions, crossing the river Rauðufossakvísl on the way, until we reach the area of Landmannahellir (Landmanna cave) where we stop for a stretch, a look in to the cave and photos.

From there we carry on to Landmannalaugar past the beautiful lake Frostastaðavatn and crossing another river, Jökulgiljakvísl. We stop at Landmannalaugar, a hot spring area and a popular place for lunch, hikes, photos, a bath in the warm springs, or whatever you feel like doing.

On our way back we take road 208 to view Sigöldugljúfur, The Valley of Tears, as some people call it, and then continue to Hrauneyjar for a coffee stop and then on to Reykjavik via the beautiful valley of Thjorsardalur.
